I’m reading Atlas Shrugged and am about half way through. I just read a part that got me thinking about this Miss USA issue. It’s when the group of no-goods is putting together Directive 10-289 and James Taggart asked what sort of man would stand up to this. Dr. Ferris replied “The guiltless man”. When Taggart asked what he meant by that, Dr. Ferris replied:
“I mean that there is no way to disarm any man, except through guilt, through that which he himself has accepted through guilt. If a man has ever stolen a dime, you can impose on him the punishment intended for a bank robber and he will take it. He’ll bear any form of misery, he’ll fell that he deserves no better. If there is not enough guilt in the world then we must create it. If we teach a man that it’s evil to look at spring flowers, and he believes us and then does it – We’ll be able to do whatever we please with him. He won’t defend himself. He won’t feel it’s worth it. He won’t fight. But save us from the man who lives up to his own standards. Save us from the man of clean conscience. He’s the only man who’ll beat us.”
What if the weapon they are using to promote gay marriage is guilt? Anyone who apposes gay marriage is called homophobe, hateful and evil. Are they saying this to make us feel guilty? Are they hoping our guilt will override our hearts and our convictions? Are they doing the same thing with Obama by saying either you support him or you’re a racist? If so, I would like to say to Carrie Prejean, and to the rest of us, to hold your standards, keep your conscience clean. If we do that, we’ll be the ones who’ll beat them.
